Beggar’s Opera: Premiere Recap
That’s all folks!
We’re loaded out of Performance Works and are now recovering from our amazing world premiere run of Beggar’s Opera. Thanks to everyone who came to the show! Your response to “our humble opera” was truly tremendous. Like our Beggar’s Opera Facebook Page for show updates and specially released supplementary material. (Ooohh! Aaahh!)
And the numbers are in!
Our Beggar’s Opera world premiere has taken the crown for the highest grossing Seven Tyrants production to date - eclipsing even our wildly successful Halloween sequel Judge Dee and the Chinese Garden Murders, which sold over 1000 tickets last October. Beggars belief. Thanks Vancouver!
Great press too!
We had some really terrific press during the run, including several great previews (among them TV Week magazine!) and a few online reviews. Follow the links below if you’d like to have a read:
“remarkable leap of faith and talent from the show’s three main creators—co-director Newham; co-director, composer and performer/narrator Daniel Deorksen; and choreographer Catherine Burnett.”
- Paul Durras, www.vancouverplays.com
“Newham and Deorksen are onto something here”
- Mark Robins, www.gayvancouver.net
“Off the top, Daniel Deorksen (Beggar) and Phyllis Ho (Player), rigged out like vaudeville clowns tell us, “You’ve never seen anything like this.” And that’s the truth.”
- Jo Ledingham, www.joledingham.ca
