Seven Tyrants Theatre is a not-for-profit theatre society based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. We produce multi-disciplinary theatrical performance pieces, utilizing actors, video artists, visual artists and live musicians to provide a full-sensory experience relevant to a global audience. With a special interest in new plays and the innovative reimagining of classical works, we emphasize a collaborative process. We stress the integration of varying disciplines at all stages of creative development.
Seven Tyrants Theatre was created in 2007 as an initiative of graduates and students from Theatre at UBC’s renowned programs. The objective was a forum for original creation in an environment of active self-education, within which upcoming and established artists might learn from one another and hone their creative skills. We encourage the mentorship of current theatre and design students by graduates and members of the artistic community in the effort of fostering lasting artistic relationships.
Seven Tyrants Theatre is committed to maintaining a repertoire of pieces in continual development. Renewed workshopping provides the opportunity to showcase exciting, alternative incarnations of each piece and to view each production as an exploration, rather than the culmination, of an idea. Our current repertoire of ongoing projects includes The Bucky Show, an original play based on the work of R. Buckminster Fuller, The China Tea Deal, an evening of theatre in the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, and Bad King John, our experimental adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic.
