Inaugural Weekend May 18th, 19th and 20th, 2018:

The Summer Lounge Series will kick off the official launch for TYRANT STUDIOS, our newly opened Theatre and Lounge. Operated by Seven Tyrants Theatre, Vancouver’s Jessie Award-nominated independent theatre company, TYRANT STUDIOS is right above the historic Penthouse Nightclub and features a Studio Theatre as well as a full service bar and Lounge Stage.

Our Summer Lounge Series offers Vancouver a variety of professional Music and Comedy shows each week with the following format:

Friday nights we present “Friday Jazz, a live Jazz show and bar, join us as we make our jazz noises here.

Saturday nights we present “The Comic Strip, a comedy show featuring three top comedians each week.

Sunday nights we present “The Goblin Cabaret, an intimate and unplugged showcase of local musicians.



Our inaugural lineup includes a 2018 Juno Award winner along with some of the best acts in Vancouver:

Friday May 18th: “FRIDAY JAZZ”

May 18’s inaugural music night features the incomparable Tim Sars Trio, and local Muppet Zappa-heads Two Apple Tobacco, playing a “jazzier than usual” set. The intimate venue is fully licensed, so come join us as we launch the summer series and make our jazz noises here. “Jazz isn’t dead, it just smells funny” — Frank Zappa

7:30 pm — Tim Sars Trio (2 sets)

Tim Sars has pursued his passion for music by working as a professional performer, teacher, and composer/arranger in Vancouver Canada and around the world. The Tim Sars Trio has performed together for over ten years, playing festivals, schools, and clubs. They have a vast book of music, from New Orleans Jazz, swing, funk, and originals. The trio is made up of drums, bass, and of course Tim on sax and vocals.

9:30 pm — Two Apple Tobacco

‘A bright beacon of weirdness’ known for their ‘Zappa-esque’ material and ‘explosive show’, Two Apple Tobacco has been named one of the best indie bands in Vancouver by Vanmusic, and has made the Georgia Straight’s Best of Vancouver two years in a row. Debut EP applEPairs available online.


Satuday May 19th: “THE COMIC STRIP”

May 19th is the inaugural presentation of The Comic Strip, a weekly professional comedy show, presented every Saturday night on the Tyrant Studios Lounge Stage. Each week The Comic Strip showcases three of the best stand-up comedians in Vancouver. Hosted by Kyle Bottom and David Thomas Newham.

The professional show runs from 8PM to 9:30PM. A free “open mic” follows after from 10PM to Midnight.


Ivan Decker:

Ivan Decker won the 2018 Juno Award for Comedy Album of the Year for his album I Wanted to Be a Dinosaur. Ivan has performed stand-up comedy across North America and can be seen and heard as a part of the popular CBC radio program “The Debaters,” the Winnipeg and Halifax Comedy festivals for CBC Television, and he recently made his American international TV debut on CONAN.

Sophie Buddle:

Sophie Buddle is a rising star in the Canadian professional comedy scene. She has appeared in Montreal’s Just For Laughs, Vancouver’s “Comedy Mix” and she recently filmed a Pilot for a TV series. Sophie was runner up at SiriusXM’s Top Comic competition in 2017.

Myles Anderson:

Myles Anderson has steadily gained a reputation as one of Canada’s brightest young comedians. Combining traditional jokes with bird-like movements, Myles Anderson delivers a uniquely hilarious comedy experience. He was a finalist at the Seattle International Comedy Competition and can be heard on CBC’s Laugh Out Loud.


Sunday May 20th: “THE GOBLIN CABARET”

Hosted by — Top Hat Goblins. From reggae to ragtime, funk to phantasmagoria, Top Hat Goblins specialize in a theatrical grand tour of original cabaret funk-rock. The Goblin Cabaret is a weekly showcase of local musicians and entertainers. Intimate and unplugged, the focus will be on single acts and duos, with Top Hat Goblins hosting and performing throughout the night.

The Cabaret runs Sundays from 7 pm – 9 pm, followed by an open mic from 9 pm – 11:30 pm.
