BAD KING JOHN: 2008 RELEASE

Seven Tyrants Theatre

in association with Theatre at UBC

requests your presence at the first workshop performance of a new play

BAD KING JOHN

based on an adaptation by Neil Freeman

In an experimental re-imagining of Shakespeare’s The life and death of King John, Bad King John delves into the personal and political consequences we all share as a result of corruption within our leaders. With an original musical score and choreography, this tongue-in-cheek twist on Shakespeare’s most Machiavellian play serves up a fresh take on today’s political climate. Wheelin’ and dealin’ world leaders, a corrupted Cardinal and heirs to uncertain legacies encircle Bad King John as he unwittingly masterminds his own destruction.

Over the course of a 4 week workshop, the focus of Bad King John has been to create an accessible and streamlined version by injecting live musical elements into a dramatically reconstructed text. An ensemble of actors, designers and musicians have worked collectively to bring Bad King John off the page and into reality. The workshop culminates on two evenings of presentations to an invited audience.
